in this case, the fog layer gradually decreased during the forenoon with vanishing fog in the early afternoon hours. walking through the very middle of the narrowest part of the pass has been associated with gusty winds and remarkable cooler air than above the fog (say 7 degree difference or more, within few metres vertical distance). a change in large-scale weather pattern, with onset of northwesterly winds ended the gap flow period and the fog/low stratus broke up even downstream of the pass in the Vienna basin.
